Many animals experience sleep stages similar to humans, including rapid eye movement sleep. Scientists have observed behaviours suggesting that animals such as dogs, cats, rats, and birds may dream.

During sleep, the brain does not always store dreams in the same way it stores waking memories. Unless we wake during or soon after a dream and think about it, the memory can disappear very quickly.

Sound needs matter, such as air, to travel. Space has almost no matter, so ordinary sound cannot move through it. Astronauts communicate using radios, which send electromagnetic waves that can travel through space.

Because your brain is a brilliant organizer! When you walk through a doorway, your brain sometimes treats it like you've started a new chapter. Scientists call this the "doorway effect." As you enter a new space, your brain updates what it's focusing on and quietly files away what you were just thinking about. Sometimes... it files it away a little too well! That's why you suddenly stop and think: "Wait... why did I come in here?" The good news? Your memory usually isn't gone, it just needs a silly little reminder. Walking back to the room you came from or retracing your steps often helps your brain find that thought again.

Next time it happens, don't panic! Before turning around, see if you can remember what you were doing just before you walked through the doorway. Can you solve the mystery before your brain does?

Most ants live in underground nests made of tiny tunnels and chambers. Before heavy rain arrives, ants can often sense changes in air pressure and humidity, so many of them hurry back to their nest. You might wonder, "Wouldn't the nest flood?" Surprisingly, not usually! Ants are excellent engineers. Their nests often have tunnels that help drain water or chambers high enough to stay dry.

Some ants have even more amazing tricks:

Fire ants link their bodies together to form floating rafts during floods.

Other ants stay safely underground until the rain stops.

Once the weather clears, they come back out to continue searching for food.

Next time it rains, look carefully before the first dropsβ€”you might see ants marching much faster than usual. It's like they're racing home before the storm!

Rain is dangerous for bees. Raindrops are huge compared to a bee's body and can knock them out of the air or make it difficult to fly. If a bee is already out when it begins to rain, it may hide under a flower, leaf, or other shelter until it's safe to fly again!

Beekeepers also design beehives with sloping roofs and small entrances so rain runs off instead of inside. Bees are amazing builders! They seal tiny gaps with a sticky substance called propolis ("bee glue"), which helps keep out wind, rain, and even germs. Inside the hive, thousands of bees work together to fan their wings and control the temperature and humidity. If a hive becomes flooded by very heavy rain or rising water, it can be dangerous. Bees may lose stored honey or even have to abandon the hive. Some species, like honey bees, will cluster together to protect the queen.

A bee's wings are so delicate that even a few raindrops can make flying difficult, but the hive itself is like a tiny, well-built house designed to keep the family safe and dry.
